Butterflies on the driveway – June 27, 2004

Not as many butterflies on the driveway as last year – hopefully they’re just delayed because of the cool weather.

I did see a new butterfly on Wednesday, near Trenton Bluff along 35 – a Gray Copper.
I thought at first that it might be a Karner Blue (I’m always hoping to see one), but it was in the wrong place, and didn’t look quite right. It was in the shallow ditch between the railroad track and the highway.

I’ve seen 3 Giant Swallowtails at the farm – 2 last weekend, and one this weekend.

Last weekend I saw mostly Red-spotted Purples and Pearl/Northern Crescents. This weekend there are Fritillaries everywhere.
