Journal for September 2000

Randy Hoffman came to walk the land with us; I trailed around after him and took notes on everything.  It was extremely helpful, and lots of fun.  We found a few plants on the state lists:  Gentiana alba in the little Corner View Prairie, and Fringed Gentian in the wetland.  He says the ants that make the mounds are Formica Ants.  We saw what he said was a harvest mouse on Sumac Prairie – it jumped like a frog!  He also gave us good advice about burning and other restoration ideas.  He’ll be a great resource as we work on the restoration.
