We had almost a week of warm spring weather, and then it changed back into winter.
We’ve been going in and out of winter for the last few weeks – first the ground froze, and then thawed; we got two snowstorms and they both melted away. So we still have a very brown landscape and I haven’t gotten much seeding done.
We may finally be getting some more snow. As I’m writing it’s raining hard and freezing on the trees. The forecast is for a mix of rain and snow for the next few days.
It’s been a gray and brown few weeks – no snow, wind, and cold temperatures. Mike got a wide plow blade for the Powertrac – now he’s hoping for lots of snow so he can try it out.
There are muskrats living in the new beaver pond. We walked over to check it out, and three muskrats came swimming towards us to check us out.
This week turned out to be very snowy. We got 10 inches one morning – about 2 inches an hour for a few hours. It was amazing to watch it come down so fast.
This is the very end of the blooming season, so most of the flowers blooming now are purple and white asters.
The weather has finally turned colder – this week we had the early September cold snap that always brings rain and cold winds at the end of summer. We managed to get some sumac cut before the rain came. We widened the area on Sumac Prairie so now we can see it pretty well from […]
The Cecropias have started hatching – I have 17 cocoons and the first one hatched on June 12, exactly the same date as my first one hatched last year. The first 5 were males so I released a couple in St. Paul and the rest at the farm.
The most exciting thing that happened this week was that my Polyphemus Moth cocoon – the one that I’ve been carrying back and forth to the farm and watching so carefully – finally hatched.
