Driveway butterflies – July 5 2004

Many more butterflies on the driveway this week.

The warm weather has definitely brought out more butterflies. This week there were so many that when we walk, they fly all around us in a whirlwind, and bump against us. In the fields there are mostly Fritillaries – Great Spangled, Meadow, and (I think) Aphrodite. On the driveway, there are Fritillaries, as well as Northern/Pearl Crescents, Hackberries, Tawny Emperors, and a few ragged Red-spotted Purples. I’ve seen a few monarchs, Viceroys, and Tiger swallowtails.
