North American Prairie Conference – August 18, 2004

The conference was in Madison from Monday until Thursday last week. It was very interesting – I’m still trying to organize all the ideas I had and the things I learned.
Tuesday was field trip day, and I went to 3 amazing places – one remnant, and two very interesting restorations. The remnant was Black Earth Prairie SNA, in western Dane County. It’s a knob of a hill, surrounded by valleys and hills, and covered with prairie flowers. Even on a gray windy day, the flowers were spectacular.

Here’s a view of the whole remnant

and of the prairie horizon

and of some of the flowers
