Leaf Beetles – July 14, 2004

Last week Mike Reese and I photographed some beautiful iridescent beetles which were on some plants in the Cat’s Paw Prairie.

I think they are Dogbane Beetles, Chrysochus auratus, in the Chrysomelidae family. They have shiny bodies with wonderful blue green and copper iridescence. The larvae eat the roots of Dogbane and Milkweed, and the adults eat leaves and flowers.
