Spring Butterflies – April 19, 2005

There are still lots of anglewings and tortoiseshells this week.
A Milbert’s Tortoiseshell fluttered around us while we were burning the brush pile – checking out our equipment. Here it is sitting on a water bucket.

We also saw Eastern Commas, Comptons Tortoiseshells, and Mourning Cloaks.

I saw several American Painted Ladies this week. One, I think a male, was fluttering around on top of Hidden Oaks, in a mowed area. And I saw two females laying eggs – one on Sumac Prairie and one next to the house.
