Finally a hot summery week. Everything is looking very lush and green. We had a few sudden rainstorms, but no long downpours.

More aspen girdling this weekend – this time I worked on the top of Hidden Oaks across from and next to the meadow. At first I started across the path from the meadow, but I startled a grouse from its nest, so I decided to move away until the babies hatch.
Spring Plants – May 25, 2005
Finally, with the warm weather, I’m starting to see more flowers. The best new flower I found was Cream Wild Indigo blooming on the cliff behind the house. Continue reading

This was a cool few days – again – perfect for girdling aspen. I worked on the opening above Indian Grass Prairie and girdled all the aspen I could find except 5 huge ones with very thick ridged bark. Continue reading

We finally saw a bear. We’ve been hearing about bears ever since we bought the farm, but had never seen one. We suspected it had visited when I found the hummingbird feeder post bent over almost to the ground and the feeder broken. Continue reading

This was the week of the Craft Group visit to the farm. It was really fun – we had 12 people for dinner and overnight. We walked, and talked, and cooked Indian food, and had a great time. Everyone got to hear coyotes howling, and to see Jupiter and three of its moons through the spotting scope. Continue reading
