We wanted to get outside of the city of Paris to see what the surrounding area was like. The city is surrounded by a ring road – a crowded freeway that defines the edge of the central city. We went to three places outside of the ring road, on three different days.

Geneva
Mike was really interested in riding on one of the fast European trains, so one day we took a train to Geneva, Switzerland and back.

Journal for August 7, 2008
We had a nice visit from some friends from the city. They came for walks, dinner and a sleepover. We had a great time.
The City of Paris

Journal for July 31, 2008
As usual at this time of year, I’m way behind on blog posts. The weather has been beautiful so I’ve been able to work outside most mornings, before the sun gets too hot, and we’ve had a lot of visitors in the afternoons.
The Trip to Paris
We were in Paris for two weeks at the end of June. We had a wonderful time – walking and looking at people and scenery.
Journal for July 15, 2008
We were gone for a few weeks (Paris and Geneva – I’ll post a story as soon as I get my photos organized) and now the prairies and the butterflies are into their summer glory.
Polyphemus Moth Caterpillars
I have 170 Polyphemus caterpillars this year! I’m hoping I can find good homes for most of them. Right now they’re living in cages on our screened porch.
Butterflyweed
Asclepias tuberosa
We only have a few plants of Butterfly weed growing naturally at the farm. This is one on the east side of Indian Grass Point. We’ve been planting them in our reconstructed prairies, so someday we’ll have many more.
