Paleacrita vernata – Spring Cankerworm

Caterpillar foods: many trees and shrubs including maple, elm, birch, plum (Bugguide)

Adults overwinter as pupae and fly in early spring.  They don’t look like typical Geometridae when they have their wings folded – their silhouette is narrower than others in the family.  Females are wingless.
