Hemaris thysbe – Hummingbird Clearwing Moth

Family Sphingidae   Hodges # 7853

Caterpillar foods: hawthorne, honeysuckle, snowberry, viburnum (Bugguide)

These beautiful day-flying moths really do resemble hummingbirds.  There are three similar species in our area.  This one has pale legs, and the bottom edge of the clear area of the forewings is ragged or uneven – not smooth.
