Every year Buffalo and Crawford counties arrange tours of remnant prairie sites. They alternate years in each county. This year the tour was in Crawford County.
We visited two sites – there was one more on the tour, but we had to leave early.
The first was Armund’s valley. It’s a narrow valley with several steep wooded hills, and flat land at the bottom where he’s growing food plots for deer. He’s restored some of the prairies, planted some slopes into prairie, and worked on restoring a couple of big savanna hillsides.
Looking up into a savanna restored with fire, and seeding with savanna species.

This is the second of the prairie/savanna sites. It included some prairies planted into old crop fields, and several restored savanna hillsides.
