Dasychira vagans – Variable Tussock Moth

Family Erebidae   Hodges # 8294

Caterpillar foods: deciduous trees including apple, birch, poplar, willow  (Beadle & Leckie)

Dasychira are difficult, but I think this is Dasychira vagans.  Note from Chris Schmidt: “…vagans… is one of the ‘easier’ ones to recognize – lots of white shading in and around the reniform, little or no brown overall, no white patch in the tornus, and without pronounced difference in shade or color on either side of the postmedial line.”
