Caterpillar foods: leaves of apple, ash, cherry, crabapple, elm, hickory, maple, oak, peach, pear, plum, willow  (Bugguide),  also feed on winter moth caterpillars and sawfly larvae (Sam Jaffe)

Lithophanes spend the winter as adults, so individuals found in the fall tend to be fresher, and less worn.

There are several similar Lithophanes: L. antennata, L. grotei, and L. laticinerea.
