Eupsilia

There are several similar species of reddish EupsiliaE. vinulenta, E. sidus, E. cirripalea, and E. schweitzeri.  The only way to tell for sure which is which is to look at the wing scales under a microscope and/or dissection.  The most likely species in this area may be Eupsilia vinulenta or Eupsilia schweitzeri.  Until I know more, I’ll put them all here.  (Bugguide)

Ken Childs says: “the scales you want a close look at are between the white/orange spot and the costa, and/or near the apex of the forewing and you can usually get a good enough look with a decent macro lens focused as close as possible. Also most of the time you can ID E. vinulenta because the shape of the spot will usually be more half moon shaped and there will be a fair amount of black scaling on the forewing. The other similar species look “cleaner”.”
