Synchlora aerata – Wavy-lined Emerald

Hodges # 7058

Caterpillar foods: many plants – often composite flowers but also many other flowering plants, shrubs and trees  (Bugguide)

These are very common visitors to my lights.

Came to lights – 7/30/2010

The caterpillars decorate their bodies with pieces of plants – usually flower petals – for camouflage.  I found one of the caterpillars on some White Snakeroot (Eupatorium rugosum) next to our front door.  It’s extremely small – maybe 1/4 inch long – so I had a hard time getting a reasonable photo.
