This species is very similar to Eulithis graciliniata – the adults look nearly identical. Bugguide says the only way to tell them apart is by dissection or rearing. (Bugguide) Seabrooke Leckie came up with descriptions that can help separate them: E. diversilineata has lighter brown FW lines, and the lines inside the median area are often lighter than its boundary lines. The inner median area is often shaded with purplish-gray or rusty gray. The terminal area has little or no shading. Anal angle of the hindwing has a white band with dark scales above and below.
The caterpillars of the two species are different: “Larvae [of diversilineata] are mostly greenish, often tinged with red. They lack the darkly pigmented lateral swellings on the second thoracic segment found in E. gracilineata.” (Mass Moths)
