I often see the caterpillars in late summer and fall, crawling on the driveway, or hiding under boxes or pots that are sitting on gravel, and sometimes on tree trunks at my moth bait.

This is one that I kept over the winter as a caterpillar, fed it a little more in the spring before it pupated, and then released the adult after it emerged.
