Much of this prairie has become brushy and dominated by tall grasses – Indian Grass and Big Bluestem. The southern 1/4 is in the best shape – less grass and brush, and more diversity of forbs. The northern-most area is grassy, but not very brushy. We drive through it and we’re watching it, but we don’t spend much time here, so except for removing a few buckthorns from near the path, we haven’t done much work on it.
We always do a little work at the southern end – just above Big View Prairie. I treat garlic mustard along the edge of the prairie and in the savanna just below it. Later in the summer I cut and remove burdock, and Mike mows out the brush growing along the edge.

9/20/2024 I cut most of the burdock along this southern edge, just above Big View Prairie and savanna. Mike mowed the brush and pulled out most of the trees that had fallen along the edge.
