Buffalo Ridge Prairie – 2021

[To see photos and stories of this prairie in other years, go to the links on the main Buffalo Ridge Prairie page.]

We didn’t do many projects here this year.  The biggest project I did was to cut and treat some big patches of aspen sprouts at the south end of the prairie.   There are still more aspen sprouts – I’ll see how this project works and maybe do more next year.

Also, Mike mowed one area at the north end to discourage Tall Goldenrod.  And he mowed one area next to the the shortcut that goes down to Western Road because it was becoming very brushy.

1/27/2021  There are many places that have this nice mix of prairie grasses and Round-headed Bush Clover.  They’re especially obvious in the winter.

5/25/2021  The last few years the Indian Grass has been taking over.  There are still lots of forbs, but in winter in spring the dry grass dominates the view.  The flowers are easier to see along the path.
