The Cat’s Paw Prairie improved a bit this year, although I saw even more Canada Goldenrod. The work I did on the goldenrod last year – clipping and spraying the stalks in a few areas – hasn’t seemed to do any good.
In May, I found lots of Prairie Phlox and Golden Alexander.
Prairie Phlox (Phlox pilosa)
And, for the first time in any of the planted prairies, I found Prairie Smoke (Geum triflorum).
Later on I found some Needle Grass (Stipa spartea) – another plant that I’ve planted in all the prairies, but haven’t seen growing often.
This is the prairie in July.
And on a misty morning in November.
