This was the first year of the prairie and we saw almost no prairie plants – there were a few Black-eyed Susans (Rudbeckia hirta) and a few Partridge Peas (Chamaecrista fasciculata), but that was all.

Most of the weeds were Foxtail ( Setaria viridis), Burdock (Arctium minus), and Mullein (Verbascum thapsus).

We mowed twice to control the Foxtail and Burdock. This picture was taken in July 2003.
