Phyllocnistis vitifoliella

Hodges # 0854

Caterpillar food:  leaf miners on grape leaves  (Terry Harrison)

There are several different Phyllocnistis species which are so similar that the only way to tell them apart is from their host plant.  Kyle Johnson and I found these overwintering under the bark of dead oak trees.  Since P. vitifoliella is the most common, and we have lots of Wild Grape, Kyle thinks they are probably this species.
