Leucania commoides – Dark-lined Wainscot

Hodges # 10447

Caterpillar foods:  grasses  (Beadle & Leckie)

The species page on Bugguide suggests that this common name would be fitting – so I’ve used it.

This species is difficult to distinguish without seeing the hindwings.  L. commoides has dark hindwings; L. multilinea is similar but with light hindwings with a dark edge; L. lapidaria is similar but with white hindwings.

7/26/2014  The best photo I have that includes a view of the hindwings.
