Idia aemula – Common Idia

Family Erebidae    Hodges # 8323

Caterpillar foods: dead leaves  (Bugguide)

This moth is called a ‘Waved Tabby’ in Europe (Bugguide)

According to Hugh McGuinness this is actually a complex of species which have not yet been sorted out.  They may have light or dark reniform spots.  The dark ones look like Idia terrebralis specimens on Bugguide and MPG, but that is a southwestern species which is all dark.

Specimens with dark reniform spots are less common here.
