Journal February 16, 2005

We spent another few days working hard on the upstairs floor – it’s almost finished. Another 2 or 3 days of nailing, and then a couple days putting up molding and cleaning and organizing the space and it will be done. It’s good to be finishing up with indoor projects just as the weather is starting to look like spring.

The fields were muddy so we walked mostly on the road and saw lots of Bald Eagles (see the birding entry). We realized that there was a deer carcass right beyond our property line – I’m sure that’s what they were so interested in. We saw two eagles standing on the ground eating from it, and several in the tree nearby. We saw 16 eagles along the creek the first day, and then at least 10 every time we walked over that way. They even sat in the trees over the road and didn’t fly when we walked by.

It was very warm on Saturday, and last week’s snow had nearly melted. Then on Monday it snowed again – wet heavy snow that covered all the tree branches and turned all the trees into white lace.
