Spring has finally arrived – alternating between hot summery days, and cold windy ones. Today it’s sunny, with a cold north wind, racing clouds and a few snow showers. But I found Rue Anemones blooming in the woods. Continue reading

It still isn’t quite spring yet, but we’re getting closer! We had several wet, heavy inches of snow last week.
Journal for April 12, 2013
I keep hoping that I can start a new blog post by saying “It’s spring!” – but it hasn’t happened yet. We almost got rid of our snow last week, but now we’re getting back to back snow/rain/sleet storms. (Here are links to all those documents, if you’re interested in the details: Old Survey Maps Surveyors’ Notes Original Homestead Land Grant documents Aerial Photos) Continue reading

But we do have records of what many of the places looked like before we started any restoration work. I’ve been having fun going through those early photos and trying to find matching views that we took later, so we can compare, and marvel over the changes. Continue reading
Journal for January 3, 2013
This has been a classic New Years week at the farm – snowy and cold, and lots of days with sun and brilliant blue skies. Today was gray and a little snowy – but that means that the sun doesn’t blind me when I work on my computer in the morning. Continue reading
