I got a new camera this week – the new version of my old camera – a Lumix DMC-FZ50. I like it a lot. I can get clearer, more detailed photos, and I think I’ll be able to get better pictures of butterflies without having to be as close to them.

Winter is definitely not over yet. We’ve gotten some more snow, and today it’s 10 below zero.
We had a great bird visitor to our owl nest box behind the house – an Eastern Screech-Owl. It stayed for one day – sitting on the edge of the entrance hole and surveying the scene. The next day it was gone. Continue reading

Okefenokee Swamp
All that Mike and I knew about the Okefenokee Swamp was from reading Pogo when we were kids. We remembered pictures of Pogo poling his flat-bottomed boat through wet swampy pools and between huge trees draped with Spanish moss. Continue reading

We just got back from the southern tip of Florida – after a three day marathon drive. We went from a temperature of 85 degrees above zero the day before we left Florida, to 15 degrees below zero at the farm. Exactly 100 degrees difference. Continue reading
